INTERIOR COLLAB x JD STARON LICENSING FAQ
How will the licensing portion of this partnership work?
Please refer to the licensing agreement.
What are the submission requirements?
This licensing is open to all active IC members. If your design is selected, your membership status has to remain active at the date of the rug launch and throughout the duration of the Capsule (6 months).
Designers have the liberty to use any medium to create their designs. JD Staron requires that the submission is delivered as a JPEG and/or PDF format and will advise what technical information is required per each selected design.
What is the theme for the collection and how many designs can I submit?
Designers have full creative freedom when it comes to designing their dream rug. If we had to name a theme it would be “The rug I love but can never find”. As such, entries of various themes are what we’re looking for. JD Staron, with Jakub’s direction and expertise will select designs that pair well together, are relevant to the time of launch and are appealing to consumers.
We encourage you to submit up to 3 designs per Capsule. Keep in mind that if selected, you will work closely with JD Staron to develop your design. During that time your design might evolve to become more feasible and adaptable to different types/shapes of rugs and potentially different materials.
If my design is selected, why won’t I receive any profit from the sales of my rug?
Profits from the Interior Collab Rug Collection will go towards the Marketing and Operation Costs of Interior Collab. Designers will still benefit from the additional 5% IC Exclusive discount offered by JD Staron which Designer has the right to pass on to Client or keep as profit.
If my design is selected, what kind of exposure / promotion will I receive?
The IC x JD Staron capsule collections will be promoted as an Interior Collab Collection design by “designer”. Promotions for selected designs will be giving credit to the designer for the design and as part of the IC community.
If my design is selected, will my name always be clearly noted on the website & each rug purchased?
Interior Collab and the individual designer’s name will be noted on the website and other marketing materials. JD Staron does not put any markings on completed rugs.
If my design is selected, how long will JD Staron offer the rug?
The selected designs will be offered by JD Staron indefinitely, unless otherwise agreed upon, or the design/product can no longer be produced because of manufacturing limitations.
If my design is selected, can I submit it to design competitions?
Yes, The design can be submitted for competition, provided that all parties involved including IC, JDS and the designer are given credit for the rug.
If my design is selected and receives press, will JD Staron make sure to include my name & reach out to me about press inquiries?
JD Staron will include the designer’s name as the designer and part of IC community. IC & JD Staron can not guarantee to reach out to the designer for every press inquiry related to the rug designs selected.
If my design is selected and used on the JD Staron social media outlets, will I always be tagged / mentioned that I am the Designer?
JD Staron and IC will continue to tag / mention the designer as long as the designer is an active IC member. The rug collection is an Interior Collab collection by JD Staron and will be promoted as such, giving credit to the designer whose design was selected for production.
If my design is selected, can JD Staron sell the rights to the rug without my permission?
JD Staron cannot sell the rights to the rug without a written permission and agreement from the designer and IC.
If my design is selected, can I purchase the rights to my rugs if they decide to discontinue it or the timeline for the licensing expires? As such, can I then have it made through another rug manufacturer?
JD Staron reserves the rights to be the sole manufacturer for the selected designs. The designer has the right to purchase the rights to design after a min of 5 years.
If my design is selected, will I have a say in the materials, thread count and pile heights the rug will be made in.
IC & JD Staron will host an educational workshop on the rug making process. The designer can suggest the use of certain materials, thread count and pile heights. JD Staron will guide the designer throughout the process and work with them to ensure the design is produced with the best technical specifications. Since JD Staron is producing the rug and performing quality control, JD Staron has the right to dismiss a design if the designer and JD Staron’s team could not reach an agreement to the technical specifications.
If my design is selected, will the entirety of my design be respected and implemented?
JD Staron will work closely with the designers to modify and enhance the design if and when needed. Final designs will be signed off before production of samples. Samples will be provided and approved by all parties involved (JD Straron, IC and the designer) before final production starts and the collection launches.
If my design is selected, how long will this license with JD Staron be valid for?
The licence is valid for a minimum of 5 years and renews automatically unless agreed otherwise by both parties.
If my design is not selected, who owns the rights to the design?
The rights to the design remain the property of the designer for all designs that are not selected to be part of the capsule.
Can I use my design for another type of product?
If selected, the right to the product belongs to IC and JD Staron. The rights to the design remains the property of the designer and designers may use that for a different product that does not fall in the flooring category (ie. but not limited to floor coverings, flooring hard materials).
Will the collection launch at a specific date?
The collections’ launch date is dependent on the selected designs, their construction and where they are made. Once all samples are approved, JD Staron and IC Founding Directors will work together on the production and preparing for the Launch event. Designers of selected submissions will be notified by IC with any expected timelines or updates. For instance, to gain better and larger exposure, Collection Launch might be pushed to coincide with a trade event or trade show.
